The American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons is the oldest American organization representing maxillofacial surgeons who are devoted to improving and promoting the highest levels of patient care. Maxillofacial and Craniofacial surgeons specialize in bone and soft tissue reconstruction and enhancement of the face.

The American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons represents the finest in plastic surgery. Members are a collegial group of nearly 500 surgeons who share a keen interest in surgery of the face and skull. While modest in size, its membership is fortunate to include many of the leaders in plastic surgery.

Members of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons are surgeons of high moral and ethical standing and professional attainment, who hold both the MD and DDS or DMD degrees, or only the MD degree.

Our Mission

The mission of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons is to advance the science and practice of surgery of the facial region and craniofacial skeleton. The Society accomplishes its mission through excellence in education and research, and through advocacy on behalf of patients and practitioners. The Society works in concert with the Maxillofacial Surgeons Foundation, founded in 1988, which supports research and educational programs for craniomaxillofacial surgeons.

Our site includes information for members of the general public seeking more information about certain maxillofacial/ craniofacial procedures, unique qualifications of cranio/maxillofacial surgeons, and a surgeon locator to find a doctor in your area or the country.

Medical Professionals will find educational information about maxillofacial procedures as well as links to other internal medicine sites.

The web site also includes statistical information and news releases for members of the news media.
